Tips for Buying Eyeglasses: See the Difference!March 22, 2022
By Caron Blitz
Have you ever thought of eyeglasses as functional art? They serve a purpose, of course, but they can also enhance your appearance if you wear the glasses best for you. Here are some tips to keep in mind before you purchase your next pair of glasses.
Have you been wearing the same glasses for years? Shake it up! New glasses can help you look more sophisticated and younger. Opticians are experts at selecting the size, shape, and color to compliment your face.
According to America’s Best Eyewear, choose a frame that contrasts with your face shape—a round face goes with square frames, and so on. For women, curvy cat-eye shapes have an uplifting effect for the face. Men can try rectangular shapes with rounded corners. Warm neutrals (shades of brown, gray, green, and blue) add vibrancy to older complexions. Jewel tones (burgundy, deep purple, dark berry) are also good choices. Don’t shy away from some bling!
Pick the Right Size
Larger frames can better accommodate bifocal or multifocal lenses, so you’ll need a frame that’s a little bit larger to help you read and see more comfortably.
Learn About Coatings
Bothered by the lights on computer screens and cell phones, glare from sunlight and night driving? A growing variety of coatings can help shield your eyes from these vision annoyances.
Ask about anti-reflective coatings and lenses that automatically adjust to UV light. Scratch resistant coatings are great—and now lenses can be made thinner and lighter so they are more comfortable!
Bring Photos of Frames You Like
Direct your optician by bringing photos of favorite frames you’ve seen on celebrities, in magazines, or online. Knowing your style preference will improve your buying experience. Whether you would like to emulate Elton John or Dr. Fauci, photos are a great way to get started.
Go for it! Pick a fun style and you’ll be amazed at the compliments you get. Boost your cool factor image—especially with your kids and grandchildren! Buy more than one pair so you can change your glasses with your mood. Having more than one pair is also a good back up just in case…
