We thoughtfully plan for many of life’s milestones—marriages, births, careers, and retirements. Yet too often, we avoid planning for the final chapters of life, including times of frailty, dependency, and eventual death. When change arrives suddenly, it can leave us feeling unprepared and overwhelmed.
Dr. Twaddle invites us to approach these later stages with curiosity, honesty, and self-compassion. By channeling the Scout motto “Be Prepared,” we can move beyond fear and avoidance toward intentional, meaningful planning. Rather than focusing on “leaving no trace,” we can explore how to leave well—with clarity, dignity, and peace of mind for ourselves and those we love.
She will also touch upon the Illinois End of Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (SB1950), also known as Deb’s Law, which Governor Pritzker signed into law making Illinois the 13th U.S. jurisdiction and first Midwest state to authorize this compassionate end-of-life option.
