2017 Janet Burgoon Philanthropic Excellence Award for Dedicated CorporationAugust 03, 2017
North Shore Senior Center was founded in 1956 with Janet Burgoon at its helm. Our first Executive Director, Janet was a professional social worker who trained under Jane Addams at Chicago’s Hull House. She had innovative ideas about aging and firmly believed that older adults should enjoy full participation in community life—and that their involvement was equally beneficial to the community.
In these challenging economic times, our organization has enjoyed the support of many steadfast donors. In gratitude, we created the Janet Burgoon Philanthropic Excellence Awards. We wanted to recognize those whose generosity has helped older adults maintain their independence and their connections to the communities in which they live.
With its dedication to elder law, estate planning, guardianship, and special needs and Alzheimer’s disease planning, Peck Ritchey, LLC, is a strong partner and generous sponsor of North Shore Senior Center.
With more than 100 years of combined experience, Peck Ritchey is a leader in protecting older adults in and out of the courtroom and is one of Chicago’s most respected firms in both the legal profession and the community at large.
Managing Partner Kerry Peck adopted the role needed to give a voice to community members who are being neglected, abused or financially exploited. He has spent the majority of his career working in the field of “elder law,” a field that did not exist 30 years ago. “Seniors face unique challenges that are always changing in our fast-paced world. I believe that educating people about the importance of estate planning, and being prepared for health issues, such as dementia, is extremely important,” he said. “Although I have spent many days in the courtroom, I feel that some of my most valuable time has been spent on legislation affecting the senior population, and working directly with the community.”
For the tenth consecutive year, Kerry Peck was selected by his peers as Illinois Super Lawyer, an attorney to whom other attorneys would refer their family and friends. Three other attorneys at the firm—Jesse Footlik, Brandon Peck and Tim Ritchey—were named Rising Stars in 2017.
“We sincerely enjoy partnering with North Shore Senior Center to help educate its members about legal options and possible situations that may arise as they age,” Kerry said. “As a firm, we strive to provide valuable tools and facilitate conversations to raise awareness about these challenges.”
