Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

North Shore Senior Center's Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program, which is operated and overseen by staff in our Niles Senior & Family Services Office, provides information and assistance for older adults who are raising young children.

Through this program, seniors can receive emotional support, parenting education, respite and financial counseling/assistance while they navigate the challenges of raising their grandchildren.

Participants meet monthly at the Levy Senior Center in Evanston. The meetings include a healthy meal and separate activities for the grandchildren, whose parents are absent for many reasons, including incarceration, addiction and mental health issues.

Case managers on staff at North Shore Senior Center's Niles Senior & Family Services Office act as program facilitators. Guest speakers are often invited to address such topics as discipline, promoting educational achievement, teen dating and understanding social media.
