Celebrating 60 Years of Service

Summer Fun Ice Cream Social

North Shore Senior Center’s Lifelong Learning Department offers an abundance of opportunities through its classes and programs for individuals to attend. By participating in our programs, seniors will learn new skills, make new friends, and stay active both physically and mentally. Lifelong Learning provides seniors with the enrichment and socialization we strive for in order to live out our “golden years.”

Many seniors live alone, and senior isolation is a common occurrence. Even seniors living independently are lonely at times. A 2011 study done by the University of Miami’s Global Business Forum showed that “lifestyle and attitude are significantly more important than genes in determining the vitality of one’s golden years.”

According to the website Seniorly, “those receiving care at home may receive communication and contact with others, but may not always get to spend as much time with those caregivers as they would like. It’s important for all seniors – if possible – to get out of the house and socialize with others.”

“While socialization is often thought of as a group activity or a crowd situation, it can often be something as simple as a visit from family or a shopping trip and lunch or time spent together.”

On Friday, August 18, North Shore Senior Center is hosting a “Summer Fun Ice Cream Social” from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at our Northfield Campus. Come enjoy a jam-packed afternoon featuring good food, good music and good friends. Guests will cherish Chicago favorites for lunch: a summer hot dog lunch from Superdawg and a sundae bar from Oberweis. For more information, please call 847.784.6030.
